Can not say we were surprised, but Meizu is finally gives us the lowdown on quad-core variant of its flagship Android smartphone. Dubbed simply the MX Quad-core, new devices are supported by Cortex-A9 based 32nm HKMG (High-K metal Gate) quad-core Samsung Exynos chip – no word on clock speeds or RAM, but we betting our money on Exynos 4412 that lasted up to 1.5GHz. Meizu claims it will save up to 20 percent of CPU power consumption in comparison with dual-core partners. Also, the battery will meet up from 1700 mAh to 1600 mAh – we see how much difference it makes when we finally get our hands on the phone. And yes, in addition to the original white back cover, you will be able to swap one of five optional color cover pictured above.

On the software side you get a Meizu-organized Ice Cream Sandwich System (aka Flyme OS), although it is unclear whether the company will stick to the promise at the same time releasing a vanilla ROM. The rest of the new phone is similar to dual-core MX, especially 4-inch 960 x 640 screen and eight megapixel BSI ASV. While there is no microSD expansion, here’s some good news to make up for the defects: the base model starts at 32GB and it cost the same as 16GB MX now! In other words, come June MX subsidized Quad-core will go from 2,999 yen (U.S. $ 480) in China and HK $ 3,099 (U.S. $ 400) in Hong Kong, and then there will also be a 64GB version with a price of 3.999 yen (U.S. $ 635) and HK $ 4,099 (U.S. $ 530), respectively.
